More than 130 walkers, runners and cyclists took part in the 16th annual Willaura Farm to Pub event last weekend. Participants ran, walked and cycled from the old Joyce Farm down Sandy Lane to a pop-up pub at Willaura Recreation Reserve to raise funds for Beyondblue and the recreation reserve. "The finish line at the Recreation Reserve was a welcome sight, and the pop-up pub was enjoyed by all," Willaura Farm to Pub committee member Heather Fleming said. "The playground and the Memorial Pool along with the addition a free jumping castle made the day one for the whole family. "The meals provided by the Willaura Recreation Reserve supporters were much appreciated, and plenty of competitors and spectators alike stayed after the event to enjoy Willaura’s hospitality." Carolyn Vankalken took out the 16km handicap event, with David Staehr finishing with the fastest time for the full distance. Brothers-in-law Gerald McCarthy and Damien Joyce once again competed in the event they helped create in 2003, completing the 16km run once again. "It was wonderful to see so many young, and not so young out there making an effort, enjoying themselves and helping contribute to the day," Mrs Fleming said. "Thanks to the many volunteers who supported on the sidelines at drink stations, first aid posts, registration tables, raffle stands, and of course the finish line." The event will return again in late-February 2020. 16 km handicap 8 km handicap 16 km bike ride handicap While you’re with us, you can now receive updates straight to your inbox each Friday morning from The Ararat Advertiser.
