It was a thrilling finish on and off the field for the Grampians Cricket Association A Grade home and away season at the weekend. Just one point separated fourth and fifth place on the ladder after 10 regular season rounds. Buangor-Tatyoon's season will continue after a drawn out appeal process from a game against Pomonal earlier in the season. The combined side was stripped of points from a draw after originally being found to have not properly cared for a pitch. The teams shared three points each after intervention from governing body Central Highlands Cricket. "We went through the facts with a Central Highlands representative and found there were contributing factors to Buangor not preparing the pitch for a game," Grampians Cricket Association president David Turner said. "They have been relinquished of of responsibility. The matter has now come to an end." Buangor-Tatyoon finished one-point ahead of St Andrews despite the latter side winning a thriller at the weekend. Defending just 116 against Aradale, St Andrews skittled through the opposition to restrict them to 109 and claim the six points. Tom Mills was in inspired form with the ball, his 6-25 helping his side to victory. "I just pitched the ball up in the right areas. We we always thought we would be able to win and that we had enough good bowlers to beat their batting attack," he said. Despite falling short of finals, Mills said winning four of eight games was a big tick for his side after moving up from B Grade last year. "Going into the year we didn't think we would get close. To get that close gives us some belief," he said. Youth Club claimed the A Grade minor premiership after a comprehensive outright win over Halls Gap in the final round, the Clubbers' third 10-point win of the season. Clinton Slorach did the damage with a five-wicket haul. Swifts-Great Western was also chasing the maximum points but Buangor-Tatyoon was stubborn, losing just four second innings wickets to limit the Combine to six points. The B Grade home and away season also came to a close at the weekend. Chalambar topped the ladder with an undefeated regular season, with Swift-Great Western's two losses enough for the combined side to take second place. Rhymney-Moyston claimed third spot while Buangor-Tatyoon rounded out the top four, finishing one-game clear of Navarre. Finals will commence this weekend, with venues still to be confirmed.
