A directions hearing was heard at the Supreme Court sitting as the Court of Disputed Returns in Melbourne on Thursday morning.
The hearing was heard in front of Justice Melinda Richards with lawyers representing both Sarah De Santis and Louise Staley presenting where they believe their parties stand.
The directions hearing was a small step in the process of the challenge of Ripon.
A date for a substantive hearing was discussed on Thursday, with the parties to return to court again on either April 8 or in early May.
A Supreme Court spokesman said more will be known following that hearing.
“What usually happens is a judge will receive written arguments before the hearing and then listen to oral arguments on the day,” he said.
“Depending how long it takes she will reserve her decision for later that day or will take some time and hand down a judgement on another day.”
Labor’s Sarah DeSantis lost Ripon to Louise Staley at November’s state election by 15 votes.
