This was the first time Ashleigh has participated in a fundraiser like this, and she said if she was going to be involved in the World’s Greatest Shave she may go all the way.
“I just thought if I am going to do something it has to be something big and meaningful,” she said.
“I couldn’t colour my hair because I used to do that all the time, so I had to do something big – and shaving my hair was big.”
Ashleigh chose to participate in the fundraiser as members of her family have their own own fight with cancer.
“My family has a history with cancer,” she said.
“My great grandmother is in hospital at the moment with blood cancer and this is what it’s all about – it’s about raising money and supporting a good cause.”
Leading up to the event, Ashleigh’s goal was to raise $150 for the World’s Greatest Shave.
But the community threw their support behind her and she smashed the initial goal and went on to raise $554.33.
She raised money through advertising flyers in which they handed to nearby schools and even put it up on social media.
“I did not think I would raise that much money and I am just thankful for everyone who donated,” she said.
The World’s Greatest Shave is a fundraiser for the Leukaemia Foundation.
