On November 2 Labor pledged to replace existing static safety signs along Barkly Street near Marian College and St Mary’s Primary School with electronic safety signs, advising drivers to slow down in the school zone.
At the time, Member for Western Victoria Jaala Pulford said that the $72,000 project would increase safety for children and families.
“We’re investing in these new speed signs to boost safety for the hundreds of kids, parents and teachers that travel in this busy area every day,” Ms Pulford said.
“These new electronic signs will go a long way in keeping Ararat kids safe around these schools.”
But with school due to begin in about two weeks, there is no sign of that the project is getting underway.
The pledge is one of the few made with a definite deadline imposed on it.
Labor did respond to requests for comment by deadline.
