The Nine news report revealed that polling taken around the time of the November state election showed the Liberal Party could be left with just two sitting Victorian MPs.
With predictions of an electoral wipeout, Mr Tehan said he would do everything he could to work with the community and put forward the best case he could for reelection.
“I’ve always done everything to ensure that my electorate comes first,” he said.
“I’ve always tried to focus on it and I will continue to do that between now and the next election.
“Obviously there will be numerous polls between now and May, but the only poll that ultimately will count will be the federal poll.”
He said a redistribution of boundaries last year meant his electorate had grown from 32,000-square-kilometres to 34,000, expanding to include Stawell.
“It just means you need to work harder and deliver,” he said.
