The pool is maintained by volunteers and is supported by the school council and Northern Grampians Shire Council.
Committee Secretary-Treasurer Lois Johnson has been a volunteer at the pool for a number of years and said it was a wonderful community facility.
“We would really be lost without it. What else are the kids are going to do in the hot weather,” she said.
“Often we see families from across the district gathering here in the afternoon, have a barbecue and make it a meeting point.
“With country communities dwindling, it’s nice to keep something like this alive.”
Most residents of Marnoo are members of the community pool, as it is not a public swimming pool.
“You have to be a member to come in and members need to sign in. People can become day members if they were interested in coming for a day of relaxation and fun,” Mrs Johnson said.
Members of the public are able to utilise the facilities during the school holidays.
“Because the pool is shared between the department of education it can only be used out of school hours," she said.
“Once the holidays come around we are able to have the pool used from dusk until dawn.”
The Marnoo Primary School conducts swimming lessons throughout the year at the pool.
“The school has registered swimming instructors come along and teach all the children in the school about water safety and how to swim,” she said.
“It’s a vital life skill which our small community are lucky to be able to get for the children.”
