Horsham Riverside Caravan Park co-manager Sue Jones said the park was almost booked out until the new year.
“There really isn’t a lot available until the start of January,” she said.
“Horsham is a great halfway point between Melbourne and Adelaide. It seems people are being a bit more cautious on the roads and are taking a break halfway more often.”
Ms Jones and her partner Glenn Coffey took over management at the park two years ago.
“We’ve been pretty busy the whole year. There are so many people travelling these days sop you get a real variety of people stopping over – from families to the grey nomads,” she said.
“Although there are those that just stay the one night on their way through, there are lots that stay multiple nights or even up to 10 days. We’ve also had a lot of return visitors.”
She said there were a number of attractions for visitors to see in the region.
“I usually send them off to the information centre first off. Day trips to the Silo Art Trail, Halls Gap and the Grampians, and Mt Arapiles are always popular,” she said.
Adelaide resident Sam Prowse stopped at Horsham Riverside Caravan Park with her family on Boxing Day night on the way to Melbourne.
“We came here last year and also just stopped for the night,” she said.
“The best thing about this park is being able to wake up to the view of the river – it’s beautiful.”
Trisha and Lyle Henderson, and Darren and Kate Pertini also stopped at the park for one night on their way to Ballarat.
The Adelaide residents said they were looking forward to seeing what Horsham had to offer.
Halls Gap Caravan Park manager Nadja Herrington said the park had been very busy so far.
“We have lots of visitors from Melbourne and Adelaide, as well as plenty from overseas,” she said.
“Most of them will stay between four and five nights. They make Halls Gap their homebase and do all the walks around the region.”
