The brigade came into being 152 years ago and was strengthened in 2012 when the urban and rural brigades merged.
The volunteers of the Stawell Brigade are here to support the community and the nearby brigades, not just for fires but also at accidents and at other multi-agency incidents. This year these have included grass and scrub fires, house fires, motor vehicle accidents, a snake bite rescue at the pinnacle helping out SES and an aircraft accident.
When not out attending incidents, volunteers have been involved with the junior and senior running teams at competitions. This year has seen some growth and successes in the juniors and a number of prizes bought home. Senior and junior members have also attended torchlight parades and Anzac day marches. The Royal Children’s Hospital Appeal and the Stawell Easter gift also plays a big part in the brigade’s year.
Recently, Stawell Brigade has had the tanker replaced with a new heavy tanker. This tanker holds 4000 litres of water - 1000 more than the replaced truck. These tankers are a new concept for CFA and increase our ability to do the job. The tanker has already been used on hot running fires and has shown itself to be a great asset.
Stawell Brigade has just held its annual Christmas dinner and awards night, with various service and other awards being presented.
