Lake Bolac lost by one shot on Mel Curnow’s rink to Spud McCarthy.
But it was the 29-shot demolition job Gary Jamieson completed on Ian Park that set up the win.
Grant Gibson battled all day, but in the end Aradale got all three rinks and moved up the ladder to take third position.
Lake Bolac will need a miracle to make finals from their current position.
They will regroup and look to come out firing again next week.
Stawell Golf losing on home turf is not a common event.
However, Ararat VRI proved that they are the real deal by getting two rinks.
Clayton Holcombe, who is back in some good form, help secure the win for the visitors.
Stawell Golf’s new skipper Dave Kaczynski got a one-shot win on the last end to get some points for the home side.
Brian Adamson and Mark Griffith had a great game, with Griffith getting up by one shot to snatch the points for the visitors.
Matches between Landsborough-Ararat and Stawell-Chalambar were abandoned due to the weather, with the teams sharing the points.
DIVISION 2
Ararat Green managed to knock off top side Stawell Gold as they try to stay in the finals hunt.
Greg Day set up the win with a big 20-shot win over Terry Griffin, with the other two Stawell sides getting a win to secure some points for the visitors.
Stawell Golf Gold had a great win to keep their chances of playing finals alive with a three-rink, 17-shot win over Lake Bolac Black.
Peter Greenberger and Ian Maclean both had eight-shot wins, with Terry Ellis getting home by one shot over Daniel McArthur.
Lake Bolac Red, playing at home, lost to Stawell Golf Blue, with Ross Dobson having a big win for the visitors by 17 shots. R McLeod got up by eight shots for Bolac over Murray McPherson to get some points for the home side.
Aradale were looking to keep their final chances alive at home, but with a few regular players unavailable they were stretched.
Ararat Gold pounced and got a 40-shot win for the visiting side. Laurie Tonkin was the main destroyer with a 23-shot win over Darrell Baldock.
Stawell Blue and Ararat Blue’s match was abandoned due to weather, with both teams sharing the points.
