Smith is the second addition to come from Geelong side Corio Football Club to make the move to the Rats following the footsteps of team mate Dylan Shelley.
Coach Shane Fisher said that he would add another dimension to an already impressive list.
“We signed Todd Smith who is six foot, left footer strong body,” he said.
“He can play in the midfield and play as a forward. He is Corio’s captain and won their last two best and fairest.
“He has been a good club stalwart for Corio over the years but he was just looking for a change that hopefully win a few more games and get some success.
“He is a decent footballer and once again he is someone that is going to add some real strength to our list and some versatility.”
Another dimension in Smith’s bow is the leadership he possess after captaining the club the last few years. Fisher said that was one trait the club needed.
“We look at the club being very young and Todd not that old himself but he’s captained a footy club” he said.
“So he’s got some leadership qualities and he loves his footy.
“He is looking forward to coming up on Thursday nights for training and getting out in the country and getting a taste of Wimmera footy, which he is excited about because it is good footy and it is a step up from where he has played in the Geelong and District League.”
