The campaign, called ‘Share the Dignity – It’s in the bag’, aims to help women or girls who are experiencing homelessness or poverty at Christmas. 

The campaign provides sanitary items, personal hygiene products and everyday luxuries to homeless women, women at risk or women experiencing family violence.

Kim Salmi participated in the campaign after attending an evening at Seppelts in Great Western earlier this year.

The event focused on discussing domestic violence and homelessness among women.

She felt participating in the campaign was one way she could make a difference. 

“I saw the charity and the beautiful work they do recently and immediately wanted to be part of it,” she said.

Opening her business doors at Solace Beauty for other Stawell residents to drop off items, Mrs Salmi was moved with the kindness within the town.

“When the bags were dropped off, I was literally moved to tears. It was such a beautiful sight to see all those wonderful women walk in my door,” she said.

“It showed me once again how generous and thoughtful the people of Stawell are when asked to dig deep and help others.”

Mrs Salmi said women were a huge part of her work and it made her happy to give back to women who were facing difficulties.

“We all get so caught up in the commercialism of Christmas, so it’s important to keep things in perspective and remember what giving is really about,” she said.

“I will definitely do it again next year.”

The bags were dropped off in Ballarat on December 1.
