Students have been donating various items to Share the Dignity, an organisation that helps women experiencing domestic violence, homelessness or poverty.
It collects personal hygiene products to share with women experiencing difficult circumstances. Each home group within the school made bags and donated essential items, with the bags to be delivered to Bunnings as one of the designated collection points for Share the Dignity.
Students learnt about domestic violence earlier in the year when survivor and advocate Simone O’Brien visited the school and talked to staff and students about her traumatic experiences.
“It was a great follow up from when Simone spoke at the school, the students were sympathetic and had some background knowledge of the issue,” student Zach Jenkinson said.
Stawell Secondary College teacher Heidi Lang said the donations were part of a great initiative from the school.
“It was great to have Simone come to our school as part of the Respectful Relationships program and have the students wanting to donate to this program and raise awareness for the wider community,” she said.

Items are able to be dropped off at Bunnings Warehouses throughout the state.
