That can be thirsty work however so what better way to explore the region, make merry and experience some good old-fashioned country hospitality than to make a craft beer tasting trail of it? Check out some of the Grampians region’s ale-swilling hot spots.
Pomonal Estate
Established in 2017, Pomonal Estate owners, Adam and Pep Atchison welcome you to their new winery, microbrewery and cider house.
With a stunning backdrop of the Grampians National Park, stop-in here on your journey west and enjoy a selection of regional wines, handcrafted ciders and chat to brewmaster Adam who proudly produces small batch beer on site making only 50L at a time.
Halls Gap Hotel
Situated at the foothills of Mount William in the main tourist hub of the Grampians region, the Halls Gap Hotel is the perfect place to include on your beer tasting trail.
Located on the edge of town, the Halls Gap Hotel is a short bush walk to the centre of Halls Gap and their huge open veranda is the perfect place to enjoy the magnificent views of the Grampians and local wildlife. Champions of live music, this year the Halls Gap Hotel’s annual outdoor music concert will be held on Sunday, December 2.
The Royal Mail Hotel, Dunkeld
Renowned for its award-winning fine dining, extensive wine list and luxury accommodation, it’s sometimes easy to forget that the Royal Mail Hotel was once a quintessential country pub!
The traditional style bar still boasts a very cool collection of over 30 local and international beers as well as crafted beer by Port Campbell’s Sow & Piglets and Prickly Moses’ Spotted Ale from Otway Ranges on tap. Enjoy your thirst-quencher from the terrace overlooking the garden with close up views of Mt Sturgeon and Mt Abrupt.
Bunyip Cavendish
A classic Western District country pub with an ever-changing menu of top-class food made on site with fresh, local produce.
On November 18, kick back and enjoy the Goose Island Indian Pale Ale on tap overlooking the majestic red gums on the banks of the Wannon from the back deck beer garden. From 12.30pm there will be live music and three varieties of mouth-watering woodfire pizzas on rotation with delicious fresh ingredients.
The Creekside Hotel, Warracknabeal
Enjoy waterfront views at The Creekside Hotel at Warracknabeal on the banks of Yarriambiack Creek in the western Wimmera.
With “crafties” James Squire’s 50 Lashes and White Rabbit Dark Ale on tap, the Creekside is a great stop off for good food on the Silo Art Trail.
