THE last minute cancellation of the annual kindergarten ball fundraiser due to low ticket sales has put pressure on local kindergartens to find funds elsewhere.

Following the 2016 ball, which saw over 180 ticket sales, the event had to be put on hold in 2017 while the Ararat Town Hall was being upgraded.
The 2018 ball was to be the third one.
Now Carey Street Kindergarten is preparing to hold its own annual fundraiser, the Carey Street Kindergarten Fair.
Early childhood educator Kara Bartlett said it was vital to get numbers up to make up for the loss of funds from the ball’s cancellation.
“It is imperative to make this a success. Funds raised will be going towards the kindergarten’s kitchen garden program and further developing the outdoor classroom,” she said.
Circus acts, face painting and shopping will all be part of the fair, which will be held on Friday October 26 at the kindergarten, 9 Carey Street Ararat.
Running from 5pm to 7pm, the annual fundraiser will feature performances from the Ararat West Skipping team, St. Mary’s school choir, Ararat 800 Preps and Bamboozle circus troop and a trio from the Ararat City band development program.
Market stalls will be full of wonderful goodies including Tupperware, makeup, jewellery, crafts, freshly baked goods and much more. There will be activities for the children including a football handball competition, craft activities and show bags.
The fair is running in conjunction with the Golden Gateway Festival and the festival King and Queen will visit.
