A GROUP of regional junior basketballers have made the cut in Basketball Victoria Country state squads after attending a two day camp in Ballarat.

Basketball Victoria Country released its squads on Tuesday night for the Southern Cross Challenge and the Australian Country Junior Basketball Cup in January next year.
In the under-15 section, Ararat’s Fletcher Burger and former Stawell basketballer Taya Chisholm, have made the emergency list for the Southern Cross Challenge team.
Burger, 13, participates in some form of basketball almost every day of the week either in Ararat or Ballarat.
“Once I knew I was selected into the camp I went to Ballarat twice a week at 7am in the morning to attend training sessions,” he said.
Burger said leading up to the camp there were some extra training he will have to participate in.
Chisholm, also 13 is looking forward to the opportunity to train and develop her basketball skills.
“I will be attending two camps in Bendigo and a state development program training night every week as part of the selection into the team,” she said.
Chisholm, now a student in Ballarat, will concentrate on her training sessions and keeping up her fitness regime. Although both players are listed on the emergency list they will travel with the team and participate in all training sessions.
The 2019 Southern Cross Challenge will be held at the State Basketball Centre, Wantirna South from Friday 18 January to Monday 21 January 2019.
