Aradale recorded a great win over last year’s premiers Chalambar winning all three rinks with Gary Jamieson’s rink causing most of the damage winning by 19 shots.
The other two rinks results went down to the last few ends, the Chally team is missing a few of its prime movers from last year and will need to regroup quickly before next week.
Stawell Golf has been near impossible to beat at home over the last few years and the Lake Bolac boys pushed them to their limits.
Jon Park drew against Gary Blackman while Mal Curnow managed to turn a lunchtime deficit into a win.
A Lake Bolac victory was looking possible but Stawell Golf's rink, lead by Brian Adamson, was on fire.
With a couple of big scoring ends and precision driving from Peter Walker, Stawell Golf was well on top on the card at the end of the match.
This handed the home team a comfortable victory.
Landsborough showed it will be competitive this year with a draw between Donny Austerberry and Ben Hodgetts.
A four was scored on the last end by Landsborough with a bit of assistance from the Stawell skipper.
Andrew Cray's rink was in a tight battle at halftime leading 10-6 but the Stawell team moved it up a gear and recorded a massive win to set up the victory.
Ararat got all 3 rinks against Ararat V.R.I to start of the 2018-19 season off in perfect fashion.
Mick Dowd is back in the skipper's chair and had a good win over Shane Briggs.
Peter Kaczynski also got a win on the board against the new skipper for V.R.I. Mark Griffith - who has come out of retirement.
Ararat’s Stan Meale, coming back from the Ballarat league, was able to score on the last few ends of the match to defeat Richard Schwab by 3 shots.
Stawell Gold demonstrated to division two, they are out to win this season with a large victory over Ararat Green.
Last year’s runners-up Stawell Gold provided a bowling lesson free of charge to the Ararat Green team amassing a 69 shot victory over the visitors.
Terry Griffin Kerry West and Rita Pyke contributed for the Gold team, who sit well clear on top of the ladder after the first week.
It was déjà vu for the Stawell Golf teams Gold and Blue managing to win two rinks in both matches against Lake Bolac Red and Black.
With a heavy defeat on the other rink, both Stawell Golf teams came up short in the total.
The selectors at Stawell Golf HQ will be hard at work this week trying to get the balance for next week.
Ararat V.R.I had an expected win at home over last year’s premiers Stawell Blue with Noel Billet setting up the win with a great win over Barry Weary.
Aradale and Ararat Gold had the close one for the round with only one shot in it at the end.
David Coone was the only winning rink for Ararat and nearly got the team home.
This is a great win away from home for Aradale lead by Jake Strafehl and new recruit Norm Tiley, as the away wins are what separates the good teams from the "could been's" at the end of the season.
