THE Golden Gateway Festival is again approaching, with six young women nominated for the title of queen.

The festival, which turns 60 this year, will run from October 19 to 28.
Nominees are each busy raising funds for their chosen charities and will be judged on their ability to be great ambassadors to the town.
The Ararat Advertiser will feature a profile on each nominee over the coming weeks.
Peta Chaplin
Ms Chaplin works as a quality assurance support officer, and her ambitions include further education, travel and dancing.
Her hobbies include highland dancing, musical comedy, Glee and shopping.
In her spare time Ms Chaplin volunteers with the Ararat Junior Fire Brigade, the SES, the Good Friday Appeal and even baby sits to lend a helping hand.
Among her achievements she lists highland dancing, Junior Fire Brigade and Glee.
The charity that Ms Chaplin will fund raise for is the Ararat Junior Fire Brigade.
Megan McCarron
Ms McCarron’s hobbies include dancing, water skiing and travelling.
“(Travel) gives me the opportunity to interact with others,” she said.
“I also enjoy reading and writing as it offers me knowledge and insight.”
Ms McCarron currently works at Woolworths Ararat but has big plans for the future.
“My future ambition is to study psychology or community and human services as a potential career path, as I have the desire to give back to my community in a way that can positively impact all,” she said.
Ms McCarron’s achievements include high course marks in her studies.
“I have achieved high marks on completion of my Unit 1 and 2 VCE psychology course, along with high marks within my current courses,” she said.
“I have also received awards in religion, mathematics and English for high achievements.”
Ms McCarron also volunteers with the Filipino-Australian Community and the Lowe Street aged care facility, and her chosen charity is Ararat Legacy.
