The C Grade Hawks came away with the premiership against a tough Woorndoo-Mortlake opposition.

The match was tight early on, with neither side able to break away and maintain a significant buffer.

The Hawks edged away in the second term to lead by two goals at the main break with wet, ocld and windy conditions making things difficult.

It was in the third quarter, the infamous premiership quarter, when the Hawks made their move.

They battled through the elements to score eight goals to two and all but secure the win.

“We had shocking weather conditions. In conditions like they were every goal was nearly worth two,” Tatyoon C Grade coach Maryanne McDougall said.

“Those goals were like gold. It was great to get that buffer then.”

The Tigers won the final quarter but fell short 21-15 in the end.

McDougall said her side’s defence stood up.

“I thought all three of our girls in defence were superb but I was also very impressed by the efforts of the whole team,” she said.

Despite the dominance by the Hawks defenders, it was goal attack Allison Barr who won the medal for best on court in the grand final.

McDougall said the win will be a memorable one.

“Tracey Reynolds, a woman around our group, hasn’t been well. She has been inspirational and we really wanted to win it for her,” she said.

“They have been a great bunch of girls to coach, really magnificent.”
