The Pumas came out firing against Penshurst, dominating all of the play early on while as the Bombers struggled to hit the scoreboard.
“We knew if we got out to a good start we would have a good chance at winning,” Pumas coach Scott Maconachie said.
“We showed desperation for the ball and our teammates right from the first bounce.”
Persistent rain made things difficult for most of the match, but the Pumas were able to adjust better and win 11.6 (72) to 2.5 (17).
“We played a great game. We read the ball well, looked out for our teammates an played good wet weather footy,” Maconachie said.
“We came in full of confidence off a big win last weekend. Confidence is a great thing.
“They were missing their star ruckman too which was a big out for them.”
Aaron Byron booted seven goals for the Pumas to win the best on ground award.
“Aaron has had a great year, it is a credit to him as well as the players delivering the ball to him,” Maconachie said.
Maconachie said the feeling after the win was “a bit overwhelming”.
“I am so proud of all the kids and everything everyone at the club has done,” he said.
“It is a culmination of eight months hard work. We started pre-season early and they have showed their dedication all the way through.”
