Victorian State Schools Spectacular will feature four schools from the region.
The Spectacular features a cast of 3000 young performers from more than 200 Victorian government schools.
Ararat Community College and St Arnaud Secondary College will perform in the mass dance while Ararat West Primary School and Halls Gap Primary School will perform in the mass choir.
The Spectacular theme ‘With the Beat’ explores ideas of belonging and identity.
Ararat Community College’s Kevin Bowles has overseen the organising of dancers from the college.
Mr Bowles said the Specacular is a “great extra-curricular activity” for students.
“It allows students with similar interests to come together and be apart of something amazing,” he said.
As one of the largest recurring productions in Australia, the Victorian State Schools Spectacular includes a 75 piece orchestra, 1300 voice choir, 1120 mass dancers, 40 vocalists, 16 principal dancers, 20 ensemble dancers, eight backing vocalists, magician and puppeteers and more.
“Students throughout the state have opportunity to be involved from backstage, production to performing,” he said.
Lauren Bowles, currently studying year 11 at Ararat Community College changed her role in the production this year, from a crew member to dance manager.
“I had to take a step back, I am currently a senior at school. It was really hard at first but it has been interesting to see the spectacular from the performance side,” she said.
Ararat Community College has six students performing at the event.
Miss Bowles said the other students have really worked well as a team and is excited to see all the hard work come together.
“Students have been rehearsing since March and the excitement is building each day as they look forward to performing,” she said.
Miss Bowles said it takes dedication, commitment, stamina and humour to be a part of the Spectacular.
“All of the students have grown and become more confident,” she said.
Mr Bowles said performers will be presenting live on stage to over 10,000 people on Saturday September 15 at Melbourne Arena.
