With three votes given for a senior win, two for a reserves win and one for an under-16.5 win, the Magpies recorded 77 votes to win the award ahead of Penshurst on 72.5 points.
Moyston-Willaura was third on 69.5 points.
An undefeated senior season and a reserves side reaching the preliminary final helped the Magpies poll so many points.
The Bombers did not leave the best and fairest night at Lake Bolac empty handed however, with Liz Kelly winning the Peter Gorst volunteer of the year award.
It was also a special night for some former MDFL players and their families.
Presentations were made to seven former senior players or their families who had been beaten in a countback, recognising them as Lewis Medal recipients and MDFL senior best and fairest winners.
In previous years, if players were level at the end of the count a winner would be decided by who had received the most three votes. This has since been changed.
North Ballarat coaching icon Gerard FitzGerald was a guest speaker on the night, delivering advice specific for Mininera league clubs.
He spoke about the need to plan for the future and for clubs not to remain complacent or “drift along” aimlessly.
