More than 60 people of all ages were at the park on Saturday, with some coming from as far as Melbourne and even Phillip Island.
Ararat Skate Park Improvement Committee member Shane Allgood said it is “fantastic” to see the park being put to good use.
“The amount of interest it has drawn is way above what we were expecting,” he said.
“We wanted something for the local kids but it is great the amount of tourism opportunities it has presented. Local traders are benefiting from the people outside of town it is attracting.”

Mr Allgood said the park has experienced great success in its first month of being open, regularly drawing in big numbers at weekends.
He said he hopes to continue to develop the area into a “youth hub”.
“We are looking to add a basketball half-court and playground for younger kids,” he said.
“To get the park to where it is now has been a big community effort.”
The park will continue to be gradually updated, with a security system to be installed “in a few weeks time”.
