With the ‘Parma for a Farmer’ campaign continuing to grow in popularity, other businesses are brainstorming ways to raise funds. Horsham’s Morrow Motor Group has decided to fundraise for the cause by donating a portion of its profits.
Until the end of August, the business will donate $5 from every car service, and $50 from every new or used car sold to the National Farmer’s Federation. The NFF will then distribute the money to those who need it most.
Owner and manager Gavin Morrow said idea came about when team members enjoyed some “parmas for a farmer” at a local pub.
“We got talking about what we could do about it and thought this was the best way to show our support,” he said.
“We started on Tuesday and had about 15 services and sold a few cars. That’s an average day for us so we hope to have quite a total by the end of the month.
“We also have a donation tin at the office for people to contribute to. The feedback we’ve had so far has been great.
“People are offering extra money when they are getting their cars serviced to go towards the donation tally.”
Mr Morrow said it was important to support farmers during tough times.
“Our business relies so much on farmers,” he said.
“If they weren’t here, we wouldn’t get the business that we do. It’s so saddening to see what they are going through and we’re lucky that the Wimmera isn’t in the same situation at the moment.”
Dimboola’s Victoria Hotel is generously donating $5 from every parmigiana sold on Thursday nights from August 16.
Other Wimmera venues also raising money through the ‘Parma for a Farmer’ campaign include Horsham’s Victoria Hotel and Madeka’s, Great Western Hotel, Dooen Hotel, Stawell’s Gift Hotel, and St Arnaud’s Farmers Arms and Parkview Bakery.
On Saturday, Woolworths Ararat, Horsham and Stawell will donate all profits from sales in their fresh food departments to Rural Aid’s Buy a Bale appeal. Customers can also donate to the Buy a Bale appeal in store.
“It’s been amazing to see our customers and team rally behind Aussie farmers impacted by this drought,” Woolworths Wimmera group manager Luke Maguire said.
