POLICE have recovered the medieval body armour suits in St Arnaud.
St Arnaud police Sergeant Bill Alford said the three sets of armour were recovered at a property in Wedderburn Road on Tuesday.
“We have a person of interest, but are still keeping an open mind,” he said.
“We anticipate an early arrest.
“We believe it is not linked to the other thefts in the area.”
EARLIER:
MEDIEVAL body armour suits have allegedly been stolen from a property at St Arnaud.
Sergeant Bill Alford of St Arnaud said three medieval body armour suits were allegedly stolen from a property in Wills Street.
“One of the local people have set up a medieval training area,” he said.
“It is complete with stations for sword play, defensive tactics and they wear body armour.
“The armour is a Roman body armour style.”
Police received the report on Saturday.
“We were returning two other stolen armour bodysuits to the owner, that were reported two months ago, when we were told about the other three stolen armour suits,” Sergeant Alford said.
“We found the armour we returned in a different location to the owner’s location.
“We believe the two thefts of the armour are related and we don’t have a suspect in mind.”
Police said the armour was made out of brass or copper and were worth about $100 each.
“If anyone has further information they can contact St Arnaud police,” Sergeant Alford said.
Meanwhile, police are also investigating an alleged burglary at St Arnaud Bowling Club.
Sergeant Alford said someone broke into a shed at the club between 6pm Friday and 9.30am Saturday.
He said two fuel cans, worth a total $50, were reported stolen.
“One fuel can was a red and white steel can and the other was a distinctive looking 10-litre oval steel can that badly leaks,” Sergeant Alford said.
“There was $100 worth of damage done to the shed.”
In another unrelated incident, a fluorescent orange ride-on lawn mower was allegedly stolen from a property on North Western Road, St Arnaud.
The alleged incident occurred last Thursday.
“The mower has big tyres at the back and small tyres at the front. It is 13 horse power,” Sergeant Alford said.
Sergeant Alford said if anyone has information about the alleged incidents, they could contact St Arnaud police on 5495 1000.
