This will bring the project’s total funding to $1.35m, with the state government having already contributed $550,000.
It exceeds the amount the Northern Grampians Shire Council initially asked for from the state and federal government by $50,000.
The project aims to boost economic activity and business opportunities by increasing accessibility and attracting more visitors.
Member for Mallee Andrew Broad announced the $800,000 in funding at Stawell Town Hall on Monday.
It came after the Northern Grampians Shire Council publicly pitched their streetscape project to Mr Broad in April.
Mr Broad said the funding would help complete the works already on the way in Stawell’s streetscape project.
“This new funding will help complete those works and improve the Bayliss Street car park in Stawell to make it more accessible and safe,” he said.
“Revitalising the CBD will not only make the town’s centre a more pleasant place for locals to work and shop, it will also make it a more attractive destination to people touring the popular Grampians region.”
Northern Grampians Shire Council mayor Tony Driscoll said Stawell’s streetscape project has been in the making for 15 years.
“It’s been a long time in the making,” he said.
“This funding is for stages two and three of the streetscape.”
Cr Driscoll said the project would benefit residents and tourists.
“This is all part of our work with the retail doctor,” he said.
Earlier this year the council employed a retail consultant called the Retail Doctor to assist with the project.
The Minister for Regional Development, Territories and Local Government John McVeigh said this project would support at least 10 construction jobs.
“This means locals are spending more money and creating more jobs and investment within their own community,” he said.
“These kinds of investments provide the financial backing that our regions deserve to ensure they continue to thrive.”
