This opened the door for SMW Rovers, who were far too strong for Hawkesdale-Macarthur, winning by 94 points to see them enter the five for the first time this year.
SMW Rovers should gain a handy four-point break this week, as they play bottomed placed Caramut while Lismore-Derrinallum try and turn their season around against the more highly fancied Glenthompson-Dunkeld.
In other news, the league has announced Shane Jenkins will coach next year’s uner-12 interleague squad at the Hamilton’s Pedrina Park.
Shane has played a lot of senior footy and is very passionate about junior football.
He currently coaches Tatyoon’s under-12s and has around 35 budding champions in his team. It’s common practice for Tatyoon to have two matches on the go at once which is great news for junior football.
Shane’s appointment completes all coaching positions for next year’s carnival.
Recently, Centre Bounce had an opportunity to talk to one of our league’s living legends, Jack Veale. Jack, who is 87, rarely misses a game of his beloved Wickliffe-Lake Bolac footy club.
Five generations of Veale’s have played with Lake Bolac since its inception in 1880, with Jack’s grandfather the first president way back then.

Now Jack enjoys watching his three grandsons – Shane, Jake and Bailey – playing and representing his family with pride. Jack started his career at Golden Point Football Club in 1944, playing five years of juniors and five years of seniors.
Jack won the under-18 league best and fairest at Golden Point and three junior premierships.
Jack had success at senior level winning two premierships and a best and fairest until the call to home became too much. He coached two premierships at Lake Bolac, his first in 1954.
It was the first of four in a row. Geelong great Bill McMaster coached 55/56 with Jack coaching the last of the four-peat in 1957. Jack played in his final premiership in 1965 coached by another Geelong great Hugh Routley.
Jack coached Lake Bolac for a total of nine years. He was regarded by many as a great leader of men who always led from the front. Fearless and skillful, it’s no wonder he won 2 best and fairest awards for Lake Bolac.
Jack mentioned many great players of his era but the seven-time league best and fairest winner Jim Knight was his favourite.
Jack loved the game so much he played until he was 43. He lost count of games played but estimates around 450. If playing wasn’t enough Jack was club president for nine years and also served on the tribunal for 17 years – now that’s dedication.
Finally; There comes a time when you have to choose between turning the page and closing the book.
