The latest performance figures showed 76.4 per cent of Ararat services arrived on time in June. However, the punctuality target was set at 92 per cent.
A V/Line spokeswoman said temporary speed restrictions were in place while crews worked to replace more than 7,500 sleepers between Ararat and Ballarat as part of annual track maintenance.
She said the speed restrictions have since been removed and trains had return to normal speeds.
“We acknowledge there is room for improvement in achieving our target and we have a plan in place to improve performance and ensure we are delivering a service that our passengers deserve and expect,” she said.
“It is difficult to compare current day performance on the Ararat line to past performance because we are operating more services on this corridor today than ever before, with an extra 19 weekday services being added last year.”
