Fifty Ararat U3A members received an insight into the history of the wool industry, visiting three iconic historical woolsheds in the Ararat district last week.

All of the woolsheds were constructed in the 1880s and are generally still in very good condition.

The tour was led by U3A committee member Ferg Anderson who has extensive experience in the wool industry.
The historic woolsheds visited included Barton at Moyston, Mount William at Willaura and Menenia at Mininera.
Pat McAloon, president of Ararat U3A, said it was a wonderful experience to view the woolsheds.
Mr McAloon thanked the owners for allowing the group to “step back in time and appreciate the history and architecture of the buildings".
"All of the woolsheds were constructed in the 1880s and are generally still in very good condition," Mr McAloon said.
Mt William station was settled by the Chirnside family in 1842 and is one of the original pastoral properties of Australia's early settlement and at that time consisted of 38,000 acres.
