Both sides enjoyed solid first quarters, with Hawkesdale-Macarthur taking a two-goal lead at quarter time in an evenly balanced term..
After a second quarter defensive swap of the home team’s goal keeper and goal defense failed to stabilise, Hawkesdale-Macarthur were able to win the second term by eight goals to take their lead out to 10 at half time an 14 by the last break.
Although Ararat gave it all they had in the last quarter, they only managed to reduce the final margin to eight, losing 47-55 at the final whistle.
Leah Drendel and Nicole Hunt played well for Hawkesdale-Macarthur in the mid-court, while Caroline Matthews shot accurately, finishing the game with 20 goals from 22 attempts in a best on court performance alongside midcourter Gemma Hughes, who was important at wing defense for the home team.
The loss leaves the home team one win and percentage outside the top five.
