A faulty skylight at a house in Ararat prompted Ararat SES public relations team leader Lucas Kussowski to ensure that people were prepared for whatever conditions may bring.
“As we head into the winter season, we encourage the community to prepare as much as they can for when a storm hits,” he said.
“This includes parking your car undercover and away from trees, cleaning your gutters, downpipes and drains to ensure they are not blocked.
“Make sure any outdoor items are safely secured, avoid dangerous hazards such as floodwater and fallen trees as well as fallen powerlines and stay indoors wherever possible.
Ararat SES has attended more than six jobs on Friday and Mr Kussowski urged anyone to call 132500 to report any incidents.
The Bureau of Meteorology forcase winds between 35 to 50 km/h before reducing to 25 to 30 km/h in the late evening.
