It was a tight game early on between Hawkesdale-Macarthur and the SMW Rovers level at quarter time, before a 15-goal second term from Charlotte McCutcheon gave the home team an eight-goal lead going in to the half-time break.
The Rovers fought back in the third quarter, with Annie Armstrong making a difference in goal attack after playing the first half in goal shooter against Annie Dalton.
However, a solid last quarter from Hawkesdale-Macarthur saw its lead blow out to 19 at the final siren.
Mid-courters Georgia Hodgetts for the Eagles and the Rover Taylah Fisher were also named among the best on court in the round one match-up.
The Bulldogs will get a chance to bounce back in round two when they host the Ararat Eagles while Hawkesdale-Macarthur will travel to Great Western to face the Lions in round two action.
