This year Ararat’s Good Friday Appeal raised a total of $58,944.90 for the Royal Children’s Hospital. This is another record amount collected by the Ararat Good Friday Appeal exceeding last year’s record total of $43,192.62.
Organiser Graeme Cooper said that once again this total has been possible due to the fantastic work from the Ararat community throughout the year and coordinated by the Ararat Fire Brigade.
The hard work from all volunteers and children who walked the streets shaking tins on Good Friday raised $10,680.00.
Volunteers collecting at both High Street and Barkly Street traffic lights on Thursday and Good Friday raised $11,883.00.
Mr Cooper said congratulations were due for the second year in a row to the Ararat Hotel and all their patrons for raising a massive $10,451.70.
“This is an amazing result showing the great work done by the staff and patrons of the Ararat Hotel,” he said.
“The Ararat Hotel is this year’s winner of Ararat Fire Brigade Pubs and Clubs trophy for the highest amount ever raised by our local pubs and clubs.
“Second place went to the Ararat RSL raising $1,472.15 and Chalambar Golf Club were placed third raising $669.55.”
It was a great effort by all the staff at the Ararat Woolworths Supermarket raising $10,611.00 through some great fundraising ideas.
Mr Cooper said a special thank you went to Murray ‘Mickey’ Woods and Michael ‘Goofy’ Egan raising $1377.00 on their Good Friday collection throughout the district.
This year saw Easter Bunny and Friends along with Santa’s Place coordinated by Carl Forshaw raise $2233.10 through their fundraising events.
“It was great to have all the local primary schools involved for the first time in many years raising a total of $1567 from fundraising events and collection envelopes,” Mr Cooper said.
“On Behalf of the Good Friday Appeal I thank our major sponsors of goods and equipment for the running of the appeal, Ararat Rural City Council, Commonwealth Bank Ararat, Christian’s Bus Company, JR’s U Hire N Drive, Ararat District Party Hire, Woolworths Ararat, Graphic Photoboards, Bakers Delight, Bakers Brew, Waacks Bakery, and Lions Club Ararat.”
