Ararat Rural City Council mayor Glenda McLean said everyone did a great job in organising the day’s festivities.
“It was wonderful, I think the team at the Ararat Rural City Council did a magnificent job,” she said.
“The speeches were great, and the bottom line is the community loved it.
“The excitement and joy of the children’s faces as they were there with their heroes during the baton’s visit to Ararat was great to see.”
The city also welcomed the relay crew along with all the batonbearers, something Cr McLean said was important for the town’s economy.
“It was amazing where all the batonbearers were from,” she said.
“We had about 70 people staying overnight at motels throughout Ararat and they will all went out for dinner.
“So the economic impact for Ararat was immense which was a bonus of hosting the relay.”
