Ararat VRI were at home against ladder leaders Lake Bolac and in very windy and blustery conditions the visitors picked the right lines on their way to a big win in the division one match.
The visiting team claimed all available points from the match, as the Ararat VRI team struggled to adapt to the conditions with Ian Park’s team getting the biggest win of the match in its rink.
Chalambar hosted last years premiers Stawell Golf and gave themselves a good chance of getting a win at home.
The visitors have started the year off slowly and have not dominated so far but have looked like turning the corner in recent weeks.
The momentum continued to build with a win against Chalambar in the round eight match.
Brian Adamson’s rink was the difference with a 20 shot win, as the Stawell Golf team start to make its move up the rankings.
The battle for fourth spot on the ladder was up for grabs in Ararat, as the home team faced Aradale with all three rinks were decided by four shots or less.
It was the visitors who finished winners by five shots to move back into the top four for now.
Stawell hosted the Landsborough team with the visitors taking an early lead in the match before the home team got its rhythm together.
In the end, Stawell picked up the win in all three rinks and moved to second on the division one ladder.
Stawell Golf Blue faced Ararat Green with a big win by Norm Duxson’s rink the difference for the day, as the Blue team won the match 44-39 in the first of the division two matches.
Aradale had a win in both rinks by small margins but gave itself a chance to play in the finals by getting all the points against an Ararat Blue team that fell short by just four shots.
Ararat Gold had a comprehensive win against Lake Bolac Red with Barry Joyce and Lew Day both having a great day out to get their team over the line 66 shots to 36.
Lake Bolac White hosted ladder leaders Stawell Blue and got close to the top team but fell short in the end by three shots overall.
Despite the loss, the team should take a lot of confidence out of the performance going into round nine and beyond.
Stawell Golf Gold played Lake Bolac Black at Stawell Golf and with a big win by Kenny Greenberger’s rink the final result went the home team’s way.
Ararat VRI received a forfeit from Chalambar to claim maximum points while Stawell Gold also received an easy win after Willaura forfeited its match as well to finish off the round.
