Students gathered on the school’s oval just after noon to watch nine teachers get buckets of water and ice poured over their heads all for a good cause.
Year 11 VCAL students had run the fundraisers with a goal of raising $500 for FightMND, a charity that is searching for a cure to motor neurone disease.
Motor neurone disease destroys the brain’s ability to communicate with muscles, paralysing sufferers.
MND is usually fatal within two to four years of diagnosis.
Marian College applied learning teacher Greg Dean said the students had raised more than $600 and money was still coming in.
“We hoped to have ten teachers take part – $50 per teacher – but one was away with an illness,” he said.
“The students run the fundraiser as part of their religious education subject on community involvement.”
Mr Dean said the students were inspired by former AFL player and coach Neale Daniher, who was diagnosed with MND in 2013.
The ice bucket challenge took social media by storm in 2014, with many celebrities, politicians and sports stars filming themselves taking part in return for a donation.
