Wimmera Football League Round 16 | Ararat v Stawell

The Warriors will be desperate to snap a four-game losing streak and gain some momentum ahead of the Wimmera Football League finals next weekend.

Stawell has not won since July 22, with August featuring some lacklustre results.

Stawell’s previous two games have been particularly disappointing, kicking just one-goal against Horsham last weekend and going down by 72 points to the Saints the week before that.

Conversely, Ararat has been in some of its best form all season in recent weeks.

The Rats defeated Nhill, drew with third-placed Warrack and lost by just five points to the in-form Saints in the last three weeks.

Ararat coach Terry Keilar said he has been impressed by the way his team has finished the season.

“We have been really impressed with the second half of the year,” he said.

“Our footy has improved a lot and we would love to finish on a positive note against our rivals.”

The Warriors have beaten Ararat comfortably in the two games they have played this season but will be vulnerable with a significant number of senior players still out with injury.

“We are aware that they have had heavy wins against us this year but we are confident we can get the win,” Keilar said.

“When Ararat and Stawell come together it is always a tough match.”

The game will be significant off the field as well, as the teams unite to raise awareness for muscular dystrophy.

Both Ararat and Stawell will wear green shoelaces to raise awareness around the incurable disease.

“It puts football into perspective and makes you remember that there is more important things than football,” Keilar said.

“Local communities coming together for days like Saturday is what makes regional Victoria great.”

The day will also run as a premiership reunion day for the Rats.

“We expect a big crowd to come down,” Keilar said.

“Hopefully we can come away with a win for them.”

Keilar said the message to his side for the day is to have fun and give it their best.

“We want to finish on a good note,” he said.

“This may be the last time this specific group of guys plays together.

“We want them to go out there and enjoy it and hopefully get the four points.”
