More than 25 V/Line staff and contractors will work along the line on Saturday and Sunday to complete track improvements, including rail replacement and mudhole removal.
The $25,000 works package will also include track repairs along the line.
V/Line regional manager Peter Gibson said maintenance works ensured the ongoing upkeep of the line and were being completed on a weekend when it’s typically quieter.
“There are only two AFL matches in Melbourne this Saturday and Sunday so we’re taking the opportunity to complete the works before the final two weeks of the season," he said.
Due to the track improvement works, coaches will replace trains between Ballarat/Wendouree and Ararat on August 12 and 13.
Passengers travelling to Beaufort and Ararat, can change to connecting coaches at Ballarat Station.
Coaches from Ararat will stop all stations to Ballarat then travel to Melbourne, dropping off passengers as required.
Passengers are encouraged to plan their journey in advance and allow extra travel time.
Ararat train services will resume as scheduled for the first service on Monday morning.
Maryborough, Wendouree and Ballarat trains will run to the normal scheduled timetable across the weekend.
Ararat passengers will be able to make use of extra 19 services each week when the new V/Line timetable starts on Sunday 27 August.
“We’ll be extending Ballarat and Wendouree services to give Ararat passengers three extra weekday trains and a new return service each Saturday and Sunday,” Mr Gibson said.
