Deltasun won the Empire stallions Vicbred Super Series’ three-year-old trotting colts and geldings race to give Young the historic victory.
Young has been training horses for around 60 years, making the group one victory even sweeter.
The horse has a strong family connection, owned by his daughter, Alison Young.
Young said he was ecstatic to have won.
“I get excited when I get a runner in a group one race, let alone win,” he said.
“It was hard to get to sleep on Friday night because I was just to excited.”
In an industry dominated by professional trainers, the amateur Young said it was great for a small-time trainer to win a group one race.
“It is just a hobby for me and I only train a few horses. Group one races are hard to win because all the big timers race in those races. It makes the win that much more special.”
