Eight million dollars has been added to the program by the Victorian government, with an additional one million dollars provided by the AFL, AFL Victoria and Netball Victoria.
The grants provide football and netball clubs up to $100,000 in funding to upgrade facilities including lights, playing grounds and courts and pavilions.
Member for Western Victoria Jaala Pulford said the program is terrific for clubs in the region.
“This fantastic program will help replace or upgrade ageing grounds and facilities in Western Victoria.
“Footy and netball clubs are the heart and soul of Western Victoria and we are giving them the facilities they need to grow and attract more members,” she said.
Swifts Football Netball Club President Steve Hoffman said these grants are a terrific opportunity for clubs such as his.
“It would be a tremendous help for us if we were successful in receiving a grant.
“Our club rooms are nearly 20 years old and we have outgrown them as our club has developed.
“In the past we have had hurdles stopping us from receiving help, so hopefully we have more luck with this program,” he said.
Applications for the program are currently open and will close on Wednesday, July 26 2017.
“I urge clubs across Western Victoria to speak to their local councils about applying for this funding,” Ms Pulford said.
