Ararat parkrun will launch this Saturday. Everyone is invited to join a 5 kilometre run around the Alexandra gardens precinct. The run will start at 8am at the rotunda every Saturday.
People can register before the event at www.parkrun.com.au. They can print off a barcode and bring it on the day, to receive an official time. parkrun Australia operates in 213 locations nationwide, and Ararat is the first one north-west of Ballarat.
Tricia Ruthven said it was a free event and not a race.
“There’s no competition except with yourself to better your time, but you can also walk it; you can push a pram, you can walk one dog on a short lead; and children under 11 must be accompanied by an adult – it’s for all levels of fitness,” Mrs Ruthven said.
She said it was an event for everyone, from beginners to elite athletes, to encourage people to be more active.
