Stuchbree was selected after a tryout process following her recent success in the outdoor game.
The 16-year-old co captained the Central Highlands team at the state championships in January and was invited to the tryouts for the Victorian indoor cricket team.
Stuchbree said the invitation came as a shock but she had nothing to lose in trying out for the team.
“I had never played indoor cricket before, but thought I would go and give it a try,” he said.
The tryout included four training sessions in Melbourne before the final squad for the championships was announced late last month.
The promising sportswoman has been playing outdoor cricket for five years and plays netball in Tatyoon’s under-17 team.
Stuchbree said she has always enjoyed cricket and this gives her a chance to play the game all year round.
“I think at the moment, outdoor cricket would be my favourite but I can definitely see myself falling more in love with indoor cricket,” she said.
“My love for cricket made me want to be more involved with sport over winter, and indoor cricket is a winter sport, so it works out great.”
The junior cricketer said she hopes these experiences will help her grow her game in the hopes of achieving success at a national level.
“Just looking at the women who play cricket, I love watching how they grow not just as cricketers but as sportswomen in general,” she said.
“The Women’s Big Bash League is definitely something I would love to achieve, a couple of years ago I just wanted to represent my town and state and that is coming true as we speak, so it is definitely something I am working towards,” she said.
“I think I am more of a batter but the coaches say I am a better bowler which helps.”
The 16-year-old is a student at Cedar College after being one of 30 students to receive the Rob Flowers Scholarship in the sports development program.
The championships will be played in Mackay from July 1-9 with the family setting up a GoFundMe page to assist in travel expenses.
“The costs to get up there and back are not covered, so any help from others will be greatly appreciated,” Stuchbree said.
