The opening quarter saw both sides on equal footing with 12 goals each.
It was goal for goal for most of the game as players battled in the wet, slippery conditions.
It was anyone's game at the start of the final quarter but the Burras managed to turn the game around with its massive seven goal win.
Rats coach Olivia West said her side was disappointed with the loss.
"We congratulate Minyip-Murtoa," she said.
"To do what we have done all year and not take it home is disappointing.
"We will be back next year."
Burras coach Claire Drum said she had confidence in her team.
"To be honest I was a bit cautious because Ararat have been so dominate all year," she said.
"When we were working through our plan on Thursday night and I saw how well the girls were doing, I became confident that we could do it.
"I am incredibly proud of them.
"You saw them out there, they did their job and they supported each other and played as a strong team."
Drum said keeping it cool was an important part of the team's play.
"Their discipline and supprot of each other," she said.
"Their commitment to everything we had been asking them to do.
"On top of that they managed to control their emotions even though they were really excited."
Goal attack Tegan Kerrins was awarded best on court.
"Tegan is just awesome. She is so determined and strong, she is there anytime you need her," she said.
"When they double teamed on shooter Emma Huff, Teagan just took off."
Teagan had half the season off with a foot injury.
"It was probably her best goaling since she has come back from injury," Kerrins said.
"She has come back stronger and stronger."
Ararat’s Alex Antonio, who was awarded most consistent player this year, went off with an ankle injury in the final quarter.
Drum thanked the crowd for its support.
"The support the girls get drives on them, the support from our spectators was fantastic."
