Around 100 local school children will collaborate in the creation of an outdoor fantastical forest installation, filled with imaginative creatures and trees made from a combination of natural plant materials and colourful woollen fibres. The brightly coloured creations will be made using traditional bush toy 'wrapping' techniques under the guidance and instruction of artist Adrienne Kneebone tomorrow.
The exhibition will be created in an outdoor, natural bush environment at the Ararat College Bushland Reserve, where the children will have access to an abundance of materials such as grasses, branches, feathers, and leaves from which to construct their pieces. The finished works will be exhibited to the region's school children and the general public as a sculptural installation in the beautiful Alexandra Gardens in Ararat.
Facilitating artist, Adrienne Kneebone has developed her artistic practice working alongside Aboriginal weavers from Arnhem Land in the Northern Territory for the past 15 years. She uses weaving as a framework for her iconic Australian forms and her work has been widely recognised and exhibited nationally and internationally. Adrienne has worked with the Western Arnhem Land indigenous weavers developing a community-building project titled 'The Pandanus Project'. She is the co-ordinator of Barthulha Webs Artist Camp (www.barthuhawebs.com)
