A commemorative book has been released to celebrate the historic event. It celebrates the team, which travelled from Western Victoria to Melbourne to play against the Melbourne Cricket Club on Boxing Day.
The Mullagh Wills Foundation recognises the tremendous achievements of the Aboriginal cricket team in the 1860s. Ararat Rural City Mayor Cr Paul Hooper was presented with a copy of the book by the foundation.
“Council will include a formal message of reconciliation and support.” he said.
The book will be available to the public for signing at council’s offices until June 23.
The Journey to the G was launched on March 13 in Harrow, the home of the Discovery Centre.
It hosts the Johnny Mullagh Cricket Museum and will be officially welcomed by 11 municipalities during 2016.
