As the Interleague round arrives, the Magpies are the only team that are yet to record a loss.
Hawkesdale-Macarthur allowed the Magpies to jump out to a 20-point lead at quarter time, however managed to keep within striking distance. Trailing by 11 points at the final change, the home side couldn’t quite get across the line against the early premiership favourites.
Magpies co-coach Joe Otto said his side was happy to come away with the win on Saturday.
“In the end, it was a very hard fought game. We had a really bad third quarter and to just hang on was great,” Otto said.
“In saying that, we’ve come away with plenty to work on. We’re looking forward to the break this weekend.”
Brad Keilar was named best afield for the Magpies while Bailey Veale, Dale Sidebottom, Thomas Gibson, Ben Britten and David O’Neill were all solid in the 11.12 (78) to 11.9 (75) victory.
The Magpies are hoping to regain injured pair Chris Thornton (ankle) and Tristan May (foot) for round seven.
Great Western’s shocking start to the season has continued, with the Lions going down to Lismore-Derrinallum by 108 points.
The Demons booted five goals to one in the opening quarter.
This set the tone for the day and the Lions had no answers. Lions’ Lachie Malloy battled hard throughout the match to be named best on ground.
Ararat Eagles had another tough day at the office against Glenthompson-Dunkeld.
The win-less Eagles managed just four goals in each half of football, eventually going down 79 points.
Nathan Wemyss kicked three goals and was named best afield. Frederick Stokes, Zach Jenkins, Justin Coole, Tulloch Maxwell and Jarrod Potter also received recognition for their performances.
Tatyoon suffered its second loss for the season on Saturday, going down to Penshurst by 19 points.
It was a low-scoring encounter, with both teams registering just seven goals at the final break. Tatyoon held a two-point lead, although the Bombers booted three goals to one behind in the final term to come away with the win, 10.10 (70) to 7.9 (51).
Moyston-Willaura cruised to a 69-point victory against SM&W Rovers. John Vanderwaal added five goals to his season tally, bringing it up to 30 from six rounds.
Matt Peel, Aaron Pianta and Jimmy Dalkin bagged three majors each.
Nick Bahl received best on ground honours while Lynden Brewis, Pianta, Dalkin, Owen Phillips and Luke Thomas performed strongly.
