Rats under 14s ready for battle

WFL - After the disappointment of missing out on grand final glory in 2011, the Ararat Rats' under 14s are hoping to go one better tomorrow.

The Rats will take on Horsham Saints in tomorrow's decider at Stawell's Central Park.

The teams last went head-to-head in the second semi final a fortnight ago, with the Rats producing a superb final quarter to run away with a 27-point victory.

The Rats have had an outstanding season, dropping only one game for the year.

Joint-coach Ali Williamson said he hoped his charges would reap their rewards tomorrow.

"I'm sure if we play well and we play our best we'll be well and truly in the contest," he said.

Williamson said the second semi final was close for two and a half quarters before the Rats stepped up a gear and ran over the top of the Saints.

He said he was aiming for a stronger start tomorrow to give the team a bit of breathing space.

"We just need to stick to our game plan, run the ball and play well," Williamson said.

Williamson said his midfielders would need to be switched on to combat the like of Saints' top liners Jarrod Berry and Hugh Gove.

"They've also got a good bunch of little fellas who are really skilful," he said.

"Our ruck duo, Logan North and Will Taylor will be pivotal. We need to win at least 50 per cent of the ruck taps and not allow them to dominate."

Williamson said Ararat would look to Tom Louder, Tom Williamson, Pat Bell and Riley Taylor to get on top in the midfield.

He said the Rats' backline, led by Sam Pinniger, Declan Roberts and Lachie Marr had been solid all year and that the team would look to hit up Joe Gibson, Tom Phillips, Tom Mills and Adam Haslett in the forward line.

"The boys have had a fantastic year. They are a fantastic team. We don't just rely on one or two players. It's a good, even team with a lot of solid contributors," Williamson said.
