Emergency services praised for work during flood events

EMERGENCY services personnel from across the region played a crucial role during the flood events of 2010 and 2011.

Their contribution wasn't forgotten at the announcement last Thursday of $251,000 in funding for a detailed flood investigation for Ararat.

Minister for Water Peter Walsh said when an event such as a flood occurs it is our emergency services that are called on to provide assistance.

"I would just like to acknowledge the fantastic work by all our emergency services and public departments through the floods, particularly the SES which has the responsibility when a major flood is on," he said.

Member for Wannon, Dan Tehan also paid tribute to the people that played a vital role during that harrowing time.

"The emergency services, SES, police, ambulance, everyone played a crucial role when the floods occurred and the community leadership that we saw from the emergency services response was top notch," he said.

"Our communities were very proud with the way the situation was dealt with and the work you do on a daily basis, is incredibly important for our local communities."
