The team has won both its debates against Brauer College and Damascus College.
In the debate against Brauer College, the topic for the short preparation style debate was 'That we should privatise the ABC'. With only one hour of preparation time and no access to online research materials, the Ararat team skilfully developed arguments that addressed political ideology and complex economic theory.
The team, consisting of Aimee Price, Brooke Stocks and Isabelle Pope, presented their arguments with rousing enthusiasm, resulting in a triumph against their Brauer College opponents.
Isabelle Pope was also conferred with the best speaker award, after receiving the highest individual score for the debate.
A few weeks later the team debated against Damascus College and the topic for this short preparation style debate was 'That we should introduce the death penalty'.
The Ararat team was responsible for making the negative argument, that we should not introduce the death penalty.
Again, with less than one hour of preparation time and no access to online research materials, the Ararat team developed complex arguments based on moral reasoning.
Aimee Price, Brooke Stocks and Isabelle Pope presented a strong case resulting in a win over their Damascus College opponents.
Brooke Stocks was conferred with the best speaker award, after receiving the highest individual score for the debate.
The Ararat College team is looking forward to building upon this success in its next debate in Ballarat on June 18.
