'Willaura B' consisting of Felicity McLaren-Haslett, Kate Millear, Joe Vallance and Nicholas Vallance placed first in the Low Down Pump and Ladder (11-13 years) event. They were also awarded equal third place in the 11-13 years overall aggregate which was a credit to their training and teamwork on the day.
In the Senior Division C, 'Willaura A' placed third in three events which was exciting given the group, consisting of Josh Byron, Zac Chick, Fraser Heard and Luke McInnes, was competing in the senior division for the first time.
Willaura sent five teams to the State Championships under the guidance of coaches Anthony 'Doc' Evans and Noel Hunter who continue to volunteer their time to train the Willaura teams.
The championships are an opportunity for brigade members to improve their fire fighting skills in a competitive environment. It involves connecting hoses, pumping water and spraying targets in a race against the clock.
In the lead up to the Championships, the Willaura teams successfully competed in the District 16 Region Championships which they hosted at the Willaura Recreation Oval.
